In this tutorial, we would learn two of the math/trig formulas in excel – Excel ODD function and Excel EVEN function.
Similar to the other rounding excel functions, the ODD and EVEN formula in excel allows you for rounding the numbers to the nearest odd or even numbers.
When to Use Excel ODD and EVEN Function
The ODD excel formula is used to round the number to the nearest odd integer which is away from zero. On the other hand, the EVEN excel formula rounds a number to the nearest even integer which is away from zero.
As a result, both these functions results a ‘number’.
Syntax and Arguments
=ODD(number)
=EVEN(number)
Both these functions have same argument which is ‘number’.
- number – In this argument, enter the number which you want to round to the nearest odd/even integer value.
Example of Excel ODD Formula
Suppose we have following sample positive numbers in excel.
We want to find the next nearest odd integer for the above numbers. To achieve this, we can use the excel ODD function, as shown in the image below:
As you can see from the above examples that the ODD excel formula finds the nearest odd integer away from zero. Therefore, the ODD function rounds the number 43.45 upwards (away from zero) to the nearest odd integer (45). Similarly, 12.48 gets rounded to the nearest odd integer (13) which is away from zero.
In case of negative numbers as well, the ODD function works in a similar manner. It rounds the number away from zero to the next odd integer.
Finally, you have an understanding of how the ODD function works in excel. Let us take some examples of the excel EVEN function.
Example of Excel EVEN Formula
Below is the sample data containing some positive and negative numbers in excel.
To find the next nearest even integer for the above numbers, simply put these numbers as an input argument for the excel EVEN function.
Similar to the ODD excel function, the EVEN excel formula finds the nearest even integer away from zero.
Thank You 🙂
